Short annotation, summary

Ilda Londo introduced an online resource prepared by the Albanian Media Institute dedicated to proper media coverage of COVID-19.

The project or approach to be discussed in the session

Nine months ago the Albanian Media Institute laucned a project to support media organizations and independent journalists. The project consists of two parts: helping journalists with COVID-19 coverage and hearing the voices of journalism. The latter included for example interviewing journalists who havebeen reporting nonstop from hospitals and healthcare organizations. “Media was one of the few sections that did not stop during the lockdown. They were constantly working along with the health system, police and other basic services.” An effort to bring the public closer to the media was made as well. Londo also stressed that the second section was designed to help journalism as a whole and to support it during the pandemic, “if you support individual journalists who are talented, who are committed to doing theirjob correctly, I think there will be some really good information and some very good public awareness on what’s going on.”
